If you are considering acquiring web hosting services from Blue Fish, we highly recommend getting your web hosting services from one of the hosts more favorably evaluated.

Signing up with Blue Fish is a fairly easy process. They only offer 1 plan, and they lay out its details quite clearly, making it easy for the consumer to decide if they want to purchase the service or not.

The problem with Blue Fish is that they advertise a monthly price, but require prepayment of 24 months to get that price. This isn't made clear until the user nears the end of the signup process. It would have been much better to be more transparent and reveal this earlier in the process.

From a services standpoint, we were incredibly underwhelmed with the offering from Blue Fish.

Compared to some top competitors, Blue Fish provides far less storage space and bandwidth, doesn't support the newest versions of important server software (no PHP 5), and requires longer commitments in billing terms.

In short, from a services standpoint, we couldn't find a single reason to choose Blue Fish over some other competitors.

With all of that being said, we still opened an account to test Blue Fish's server performance. In this area, they did meet expectations, as we experienced no downtime and found our sites to be adequately responsive.

Billing Evaluation - Blue Fish Web Hosting

While Blue Fish's billing is accurate and secure, their advertised price is only available with a 2 year prepay. To get shorter terms, the cost increases fairly significantly and may require a $30 setup fee (if 6 months or 3 months of service).

One would hope that they would offer friendlier billing terms, since they can't compete on service with other top providers. Unfortunately, this seems to be a situation where they are trying to lock people into a comparatively bad deal for as long as possible.

We couldn't have possibly imagined worse support than that which we found Blue Fish providing (or not providing as it turns out). Our repeated calls to Blue Fish's toll free number were never answered. Instead, we were greeted by a message stating "The mailbox belonging to Blue Fish Web Hosting is full and cannot accept messages at this time."

It's this type of service that underscores the need for a site like Web Hosts Report.
